Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

Two Factor Authentication for SecuredMail.App (2FA)

2FA enables you to further protect your email by requiring your username and password, and another factor before you can login to webmail. We support the use of Google Authenticator and SMS authentication.

Please read these instructions through first then follow them to setup your account.

To enable 2FA on your account, please login to your email account through webmail, then:

  • Go to settings on the top menu
  • Go to Password on the left menu

To use SMS see below.

Then to use Google Authenticator:

  • Ensure you have downloaded and installed the Google Authenticator App to your device
  • In webmail Click the "Enable with Google Authenticator" Button
  • Enter your current password
  • Open the Google Authenticator app
  • Click the + button in the top right corner and select scan barcode
  • Scan the QR code on the webmail screen with your device
  • Enter the code in Google Authenticator for "Email" into the box in webmail
  • Click the "Verify" button in webmail
  • You will receive a message "oma_settings.must_relogin"
  • Click the OK button
  • You will be taken back to the SecuredMail.App website
  • Click "Webmail" in the top menu
  • Login to your account using your username and password
  • It will then ask for a "Login Token"
  • Enter the code from the Google Authenticator App for "Email" with your email address below it
  • Make sure the code is Blue and not red, if it is red then wait for the next code to ensure it works as the code changes every 60 seconds.

To use the SMS option:

  • In webmail click the "Enable with SMS" button
  • Enter your current password
  • Enter your mobile number in the format 01144xxxxxxxxxx

NB: It must be prefixed with 01144 (for UK) and drop the first 0 from your number. For a mobile number of 07123 456 789 you would enter 011447123456789

  • Click the "Submit" button
  • You will receive an SMS message with an "...authentication token for email" message on your mobile phone
  • Enter the code in to webmail and click "Save"
  • You will receive a message "oma_settings.must_relogin"
  • Click OK
  • You will be logged out and returned to the SecuredMail.App website
  • Click Webmail in the top menu
  • Login to your account with your username and password
  • You will receive a SMS message to your phone
  • Enter it in the "Login Token" box and press Enter

Notes/Error messages:

If you received an error code: oma_settings.sms_fail this generally means that you have not entered the number in the correct format as above.
